The Ontario government alongside the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan are announcing the completion of the Otonabee Memorial Community Complex (OMCC) Phase 2 Renovation Construction Project. This project was supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure with an investment of $1,577,122.80.

“Our government is proud to support investments that modernize and rehabilitate the recreational infrastructure of communities across Ontario, part of our broader goal of providing more opportunities for people across the province to lead healthy and engaging lifestyles,” said Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure. “I’m thrilled to see that phase 2 of the Otonabee Memorial Community Complex renovation project has reached completion. Once fully renovated, this facility will establish a local hub for the residents of Keene and surrounding communities for years to come.”

The second phase of renovations has seen the completion of the first floor, including the lobby and dressing rooms. Renovations have also been completed to the second-floor community room named the “Reception Hall”, alongside a small addition to the front of the facility to accommodate the construction of larger dressing rooms and washrooms.

“As a government, we are determined to build stronger communities, that means providing rural townships the opportunity to grow and develop. Recreation centres are a focal point of so many communities, through sports, clubs and programs they bring people together,” said MPP David Piccini. “Ontario’s investment in these renovations is a wonderful example of how the province can work with municipalities to strengthen a community.

“On behalf of Otonabee South Monaghan Township council and residents, I extend sincere appreciation to Minister David Piccini, Minister Kinga Surma and the provincial government for the funding provided through the Strategic Priorities Infrastructure Fund,” said Mayor Joe Taylor. “The $1.57 million in provincial investment was critical for completion of Phase 2 of the Otonabee South Monaghan Community Centre renovation project, which will now meet public standards and the expectations of our community for decades to come.”
