Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club receives $52,900 to expand local arts and engagement programs
Cobourg, ON — The Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club (NHCC), in partnership with the Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre (CTTC), received a $52,900 Seed grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in 2023 to support the delivery of inclusive art programs in Northumberland County. The grant has been instrumental in helping the organizations launch a range of community initiatives that foster diversity, inclusion, mental well-being, and creative expression for newcomers, youth, women, and long-time residents.
“I’m proud to support the Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club and Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre as they bring people together through art and culture,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland–Peterborough South. “Their programs play a vital role in fostering inclusion, creativity, and connection across our community.”
The grant has enabled NHCC and CTTC to launch a series of community-driven art initiatives designed to bring people together, celebrate cultural diversity, and provide accessible creative spaces. Programs will include workshops, exhibitions, and collaborative projects that encourage artistic exploration while addressing social isolation and promoting mental wellness.
“We are deeply grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this generous support,” said Emilio Ojeda, Chair of the Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club. “This funding will allow us to create meaningful opportunities for connection and self-expression, ensuring that everyone in our community, regardless of background or experience, has a place to share their voice through art.”
“Art has the power to unite, heal, and inspire,” added Ixchel Suárez, Director of the Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre. “With this grant, we can expand our reach, offering programs that not only nurture creativity but also strengthen the bonds within Northumberland County, making it a more inclusive and vibrant place to live.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
