CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON – On Tuesday, MPP David Piccini was at the library in Cramahe Township to learn more about the impact of a $13,700 Capital grant awarded last fall through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. MPP Piccini was also happy to see culmination of significant work on the provincially funded downtown modernization and revitalization project in Colborne.
“Ontario is committed to supporting rural communities, like ours, in projects that modernize and improve services,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South. “Investment in public library programs and our downtown spaces allows for communities to stay connected and continue to grow.”
Since receiving the OTF grant last year, the team at the library has used it to create the library’s Maker Space, enhancing the Library Program Room at the Colbourne branch by magnifying its functionality. It’s also enabled it to buy 3D printers, podcasting and broadcasting equipment, as well as a CRICUT machine and other hardware that were used to encourage youth socialization and teen team building exercises.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment. The province’s modernization funding was a one-time investment for Ontario’s small and rural municipalities, to improve local service delivery and efficiency. Cramahe Township was fortunate to be selected as one of these municipalities. This modernizing of service delivery has helped reduce future costs, through investments in projects such as service delivery reviews, development of shared service agreements and capital projects such as the Downtown Colborne Revitalization Project.
This provincial investment is assisting Cramahe Township in continuing to enhance and grow their ability to offer residents more equitable and creative services, within a constantly evolving and fast-moving tech savvy world.
“This funding is a game changer, empowering communities like the Township of Cramahe to modernize their services and enhance efficiency,” said Mandy Martin, Mayor, Cramahe Township. “With targeted funding, we have been able to invest in vital projects that ensure a brighter, more sustainable future for our residents.”
