Ontario Government Supports More Community Arts and Music Programs

Cobourg, ON August 28, 2023-  On Monday, representatives from the Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club (NHCC) and Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre (CTTC) welcomed MPP David Piccini to help share the exciting news that the NHCC has received a $29,000 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).  The 18-month grant, awarded in May, will be used to facilitate the development and implementation of collaborative community arts and music programs with the Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre.

“Our communities come to life thanks to great partnerships like the one between NHCC and CTTC and the great programs they offer,” said MPP David Piccini. “Our Government recognizes the important role that clubs like these play in our communities and that’s why under Premier Ford’s leadership we are introducing new funding streams like the Resilient Communities Fund.”

The partnership with CTTC is exciting news and will enable the NHCC to take its programming to a new level, providing a vital space for individuals who encounter barriers due to cultural, gender, and ability differences. Minority groups like those with a Hispanic background, stand to benefit immensely from these initiatives. Funds from the OTF grant will be used to help with hosting workshops, bringing in guest speakers and instructors, helping with program supplies and some administrative costs as well. NHCC and CTTC are committed to creating a welcoming environment and producing inclusive programming to reach out to populations who experience physical and/or emotional isolation. These programmes are designed to create a space for self-expression and interpersonal connections.

“I take great pride in the impactful efforts of the Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club, which has now forged a dynamic partnership with the esteemed Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre,” said Emilio Ojeda, President, Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club. “Thanks to the generous funding from the OTF, our organizations are furthering their commitment to the well-being of our communities. This financial support enables us to enhance our program offerings, thus making significant contributions to our wider community.”

The NHCC and CTTC have diligently crafted three sets of eight-week programming, each session spanning two hours a day. These programs are centered around two core areas: Personal Development: Encouraging vocal and corporal expression as transformative tools for growth; as well as Artistic Development: Nurturing artistic talents through engaging visual arts experiences.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities.
